Dr David Moore OAM

Dr David Moore founded North West Eyes in 2003. He has been practising as an Ophthalmologist since 1989, and has developed a special interest in Cataract Surgery and Medical Retinal diseases such as Macular Degeneration and Diabetic Eye Disease.

He graduated in Medicine from the University of New South Wales in 1979 and developed an interest in Rural Medicine early in his career. After Internship and residency at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Sydney, Dr Moore spent a number of years as a Senior Medical Officer with the Royal Flying Doctor Service, based in Port Augusta South Australia.

He then studied Ophthalmology at Flinders Medical Centre and the Royal Adelaide Hospital before further work in Ophthalmology at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth, UK. 

Dr Moore began practising Ophthalmology in Tamworth in 1991 and from the beginning was keen to provide a quality, comprehensive service to the people of North West NSW. He was able to introduce modern cataract surgery to the region soon after he arrived and in 2007 introduce the current injection based treatments for medical retina diseases.

As well as consulting at North West Eyes, he also consults in Narrabri and Moree. Dr Moore is also committed to providing Ophthalmology services in developing countries.

Dr Moore is also a clinical lecturer in Ophthalmology at the University of New England.

In 2005 he set up Eye Openers (www.eyeopeners.org.au) which provides free eye care, including cataract surgery, medical care and glasses to an area of rural India that is the only such care for around 1.5 million people. Eye Openers also provides education programs and pastoral care to this rural and slum area of Andhra Pradesh in India. Dr Moore is a Director of Eye Openers and visits India every year.

In 2015 he set up GO Medical, which is committed to providing eye, medical and dental care to several areas in north Asia. Dr Moore is a Director of GO Medical and visits this area twice a year providing medical equipment and training to several key provincial cities.
